This week, I spent a lot of time with out-of-town sellers, who came to prepare a home for sale. They are a most delightful, elderly couple. During their visit, I made some recommendations for improvements to their property and volunteered to pick up a few of the needed items at Home Depot. They were at the house waiting on a plumber and didn't want to miss him.

While shopping, my client called and asked me to pick up a few more items. Flagging down a friendly store clerk while still on the phone with my seller, we located a cart and carried the purchases to my SUV. (Did I mention one of the items was a new toilet?) Fortunately, we are able to cram load everything into my vehicle. At times my SUV feels more like the Clampett's jalopy than a "professional" Realtor's car. Thankfully, toilets come in boxes these days.

Mr. Seller called again while the car was being loaded. Could I pick up lunch? Well, sure. I'm hungry and it's nearly 3:00 p.m.

After lunch, my clients reimbursed me for the everything, then Mr. Seller quietly offered to "pay me" for "all the running around I did". I thanked him, but assured him that was NOT necessary and that I was VERY happy to do it.

I still get a warm & fuzzy feeling when I think of the extra service I provided to this couple. Did I have to do the extra running around? Of course not. Did it inconvenience me any? Not really. Truthfully, I enjoyed going the extra mile for them. I laughed and said, "Anytime I can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and shop with someone else's money, I'll be happy to."

Is this client convinced he chose the best Realtor to market his house? Absolutely!
