The FACE in the Window Fest will be held Saturday, October 3, in Carrollton Alabama.
I'm taking a couple of days off this weekend to attend and participate in this inaugural event.
Here's the history behind the FACE:
My parents were born and raised in Pickens County, Alabama, and many of our relatives still live there. As a small child, one of the highlights of our family road trips was for Dad to drive us around the Pickens County Courthouse so we could see the FACE in the Window and hear how a man's face was permanently etched into the glass!
Read the full story about the FACE here. I assure you, it's fascinating!
Dad would tell the "urban legend" whenever we drove within 10 miles of Carrollton. Because the courthouse sat in the middle of Town Square, we had to circle the building to see the FACE. It brings back such fond memories, and oh, how I wish I could hear Dad tell the tale one more time!
A cousin is assisting with the festival. She has worked tirelessly in organizing and decorating the Town Square with "village people" in their full fall attire. Many of the local businesses around the square are decorating their store fronts in conjuction with the festival.
When I heard about the festival a few weeks ago, I reserved a spot to sell my glass "art".
For the curious, these are "glass totems", AKA glorified yard art. They are placed in flower beds and held secure with steel rods or rebar. They add a little whimsy and color if your yard is in need of such a thing. The totems and bird baths are made from recycled wine bottles, vases, glasses, etc. Some of the toppers are made from salt shakers or other trinkets.
I discoved these at a Fall Arts & Crafts Show last year and quickly became addicted to them.
Saturday will be a wonderful day in Carrollton with over 50 vendors participating. Cousins, aunts and other family members can visit and socialize and we get to buy each other's art! The weather should be cool and crisp - PERFECT for a fall festival.
The FACE in the Window Fest is expected to be one of the largest events in the history of Pickens County, and I'm looking forward to a great weekend.
I'll be sure to follow up with plenty of photos when I return.
