Pat Starnes Snippets: Almost Wordless Wednesday ~ Mississippi Alligators

Almost Wordless Wednesday ~ Mississippi Alligators

It may surprise you to know that Mississippi has alligators. This gator was spotted literally in my back yard at the Castlewoods Country Club. Golf courses like to keep alligators on the property because they eat snakes. Residents enjoy seeing them, but some are naturally spooked due to their proximity to residential areas.

If a gator becomes a nuisance, the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks will come capture the big boy.

NEVER approach an alligator and DO NOT feed the wildlife.

Nice photo Pat & I'm glad it was taken at a safe distance way, way away. We have the occassional fox to contend with but I don't know what I would do if there was the possibility of running into a gator in my backyard.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - I have a wrought iron fence, so hopefully it will keep the gators out. I shudder to think what I would do if accidentally confronted by an alligator (other than try to run)!

Good afternoon Pat. I can't even imagine. Good for you, I think I would panic but I would never live in an area with alligators or snakes. At least knowingly.

Sheila Anderson - I was a safe distance away, plus was on the road. Alligators are common near the Ross Barnett Reservoir, near my home.

Pat- I'd never have thought that Mississippi had alligators! Very interesting!

Somehow I think I would be happier with the snakes than the gators

WOW! Exciting to see - but....

This alligator commands respect and people can't be foolish. The alli is part of the eco system and just doing what it does naturally.

Your photograph is really special and beautiful!

No worries about approaching an alligator for me, my lizard brain works just fine thank you.

Alligators and/or snakes?  No thank you.  Something I guess you just learn to live with, but would really freak me out.

Pat Starnes ~ very cool and great info. Living in Calif, I have a better chance of winning the lotto vs encountering an Aligator

OMG I don't know what's worse... the snakes or the alligators!  Either way though it's a great shot.

Patricia Feager . Jon Kolsky , Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - See the photo in the comment above! It was taken by a neighbor and he got a much better pic than I did. Georgie, I must admit, when I rounded the corner last night to admire my freshly mowed lawn, it gave me pause to think Mr. Gator could be waiting for me!!

Hi Pat - I know there are alligators along the states bordering the Gulf.  My sister in Florida had one in her business parking lot.

Grant Schneider - the gators are especially active this year. One was fished out of a neighborhood swimming pool yesterday!
