Pat Starnes Snippets: Jurassic Park, A Chicken, And So Much More ~ Brandon MS

Jurassic Park, A Chicken, And So Much More ~ Brandon MS

If you've ever traveled along Highway 471 in Brandon, you've likely done a double-take at the family of dinosaurs and the big chicken just past Grants Ferry Road. Hundreds of cars drive by on a daily basis. At long last, I decided to stop and inquire about the giant dinosaurs and discover what other treasures might lay beyond the winding driveway.

Roberts Antiques

At the back of the winding road, I discovered a shop filled with interesting and unique memorabilia, and the proprietor of the establishment, Mr. Robert. I introduced myself to Robert and asked if I could take a look around and take some photos for my blog. He graciously showed me around his shop as I oohed and  ahh'd over his vast collection.

Mr. Robert is a well-rounded collector, picker, and antiquary, and we quickly became acquainted. He has collected items from all over the country, and custom orders the giraffes, elephants, and dinosaurs. His collection includes antique furniture, glassware, stuffed animals, bird houses, etc. You name it ~ he probably has it.

I could have spent the entire day with Mr. Robert, looking at his unique collections. He invited me to come back "any time I saw the garage door open". We had such a great visit; I'll encourage you to stop by one day and take a look around, if you see the door open.

He is without a doubt unique in his collection and I have never seen anything like it.

There was this old man making wooden signs as a hobby. When I saw his neighbor has a cowboy napping under the tree, I went to introduce myself asking him if he could make a sign of an angry kitty cat with a message direct at my hateful neighbor who bring her dog poo in my backyard.  I placed a Sylvester with a sign "Do not poo in my yard".

He invited us to his backyard and he had a loony town with Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd and Wily Coyote etc.  Fast forward he passed away and the Latino successor lost his home and I tried to get his a short sale going-too late.  It came back on the market I looked inside for any wooden signs he made. I saw one Winne the pool broken in the brushes.  My sign is in the storage look fresh. All these people moved on except my sign and us.

Joe Pryor ~ Mr. Robert has so many collectibles, interesting, intriguing, etc. He offered to sell me a wine rack that would hold perhaps 100 bottles of wine. I told him I didn't need to store them! LOL Still, I'm considering......

Sam Shueh ~ So everything was cleaned out except for the one broken sign? That's too bad. I love collectibles and had to walk away before I racked up a huge amount of debt for stuff I truly didn't need.

That old man made two of each. This is my copy paid ~$30.  I wonder what happened to the rest signs as he made a small town scattered over his back yard.

The hateful neighbor who brought her dog to poo in front of the sign & me moved away. I have since built a fence to keep animals and human out. The old man if he saw the sign from heaven he would smile and say pretty good work.

When I brought it out to show to my grand children they thought it was a rabbit.

These Warner Brother characters are not popular anymore.........

Sam Shueh ~ I love Sylvester! But you know, people think the signs do not pertain to them. :(

Hey I noticed a big giraffe next to the entrance of the shed , one of my close friends love giraffes and I would definitely made an offer to purchase it.

Abby Stiller ~ he would sell you a giraffe but I have no idea the price or shipping. I told Mr. Robert not everyone can have yard art like his!

Hannah Williams ~ it was a very interesting visit, and I broke out in a rash due to a reaction to a new lotion and the scorching sun. :( Thankfully a co-worker had some allergy meds.

I would stay there all day!  I love the big elephant you can see from the rear end.  Years ago my dad bought a carved wooden elephant and thus the "collection" began. He didn't intend to, but by virtue of a gag gift for every occasion my dad has dozens of elephants. I'm always looking for a new one.

Tammy Lankford, the elephant you found is from the 1930s. It's metal and needs a makeover. I could have stayed all day, too. What a fun place to visit! If you're ever in the area, let me know and we'll make a day trip.

You know it's too far off our path for when we go and come from California, I'll have to let you know next time we're through.

Pat - this is so cute.  We happened to be at Tractor Supply today and they had a large rooster similar to the one in your photo. I would love to have it just to see what my peacocks would think of it.

Hi Pat - That is quite a collection. My brother, who lives in Reno, started collecting dinosaurs like that several years ago - I think he has 5 or so now. They're neither inexpensive or easy to move.

Kathy Streib ~ Real peacocks or figurines? As a child, we had peacocks that roamed the baseball park and I loved finding their feathers. To this day I think they are beautiful creatures.

Dick Greenberg ~ Mr. Robert added two dinosaurs to the roadside collection earlier in the week. I didn't venture to ask how much they would sell for.

There seem to be a huge fan club traveling to place like this to pick up yard art. This guy has quite a collection and I like that it's organized.
