Castlewoods Subdivision in Brandon is home to over 2000 households that entwines with Castlewoods Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus designed course built in 1994. The club is independently owned and operated.
Castlewoods consists of several sections governed by an active homeowners association. They are Azalea Trails, The Willows, The Woodlands, Carriage Court, and Wicklow.
The front of Castlewoods was developed in the 1980s, prior to the establishment of the HOA; it is often referred to as the "original" section. All of Castlewoods is in the Northwest Rankin School District; the three schools (NWR Elementary, Middle, and High School) are practically within walking distance.
In addition to the 18 hole golf course, there is an junior olympic size swimming pool and six lighted tennis courts available through membership of the Golf and Country Club. A popular feature of the club is Friday Night Happy Hour, which is open to the public from 6-9 p.m., plus a Sunday buffet, also available to nonmembers.
Another desirable feature among homeowners is Azalea Trails Park, open daily to residents from daylight to dusk. The park has playground equipment and a pavilion, as well as a walking trail.
Within The Willows are subsections ~ Willow Wood, Willow Ridge, Willow Court, Willow Grove, Willow Valley, Willow Crest, and Willow Grande.
While each phase was developed over time, homes continue to be built in Castlewoods. The most recent new construction is Willow Grande, where several homes are available. "Original" Castlewoods was developed in the early to mid 80s, and some residents have watched the neighborhood grow over the last 35 years into what it is today. Castlewoods is located just outside the Flowood city limits off Lakeland Drive (Highway 25) and shopping, churches, and quality restaurants are within a few minutes drive.
