Pat Starnes Snippets: Nine Simple Tips to Decorate Your Home for Christmas

Nine Simple Tips to Decorate Your Home for Christmas

If your Brandon MS home is for sale during the holidays, you want to keep your Christmas decorations "no fuss" and easy. Follow these tips to keep your decor low-key, so the focus remains on your HOME, not your Christmas tree:

 Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

1. Decorate your entry table with greenery or a mini-tree.

2. Add garland or greenery to the mantle

3. Place a large bowl filled with ornaments on the coffee table

4. Add a decorative tabletop tree to the dining room table

5. Display a few Santa figurines in a vignette

6. Replace art work on the wall with a Christmas painting or framed print

7. Add a vase filled with pine cones and tree branches for a nature scape

8. Replace your everyday pillows and candles with seasonal ones

9. Add twinkle lights to a special vignette

Remember LESS is MORE when your home is for sale!

Use what you have to decorate your space while keeping the home ready to show with little notice. Don't distract the buyer with clutter. The purpose is to keep your home attractive yet uncluttered while enjoying the holiday season with your family.

The tree pictured is my very own "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" that is part of my decor each year. It's one of my favorites. I use several small trees throughtout my home. All I have to do is bring them down from the attic and plug them in. It doesn't get much easier than that.

Will Hamm ~ I wholeheartedly agree with you, but a client asked if they should decorate, so I decided to address it in a post. You know, the more (points), the merrier!

John Pusa ~Thank you. I believe it's important for sellers to keep it simple during the holidays.

Hi Pat Starnes, Brandon, MS, I so agree with you, less is more with Christmas decorations when selling a home. I always tell sellers it's only for a short while, sooner they sell, sooner they will get the start the new chapter. You've provided some great tips.

Above all else, don’t clutter the room or the house for that matter. Keep it on the simple side and you’re better off. I agree with a lot of this! Great stuff! Happy Thanksgiving a little early too! :)

Beth Atalay ~Sellers naturally want to enjoy their home for Christmas, but with the home being on the market, they would be smart to go small-scale.

Laura Cerrano ~ Less is more for Feng Shui, too, right?

I have boxes and boxes of Christmas decor and each year and I use less and less. I like simple and if selling the seller needs to keep that in mind so the buyer can see the house.

Hi Pat... a great post... it's hard for home sellers to "give up" Christmas if they are selling their home during the season... and there's no need to if it's done right.

I'm going to be gone during the holidays and will miss decorating.  I don't usually decorate a lot but I enjoy putting up a few festive decorations and my nutcracker collection.  Maybe I'll take a few with me!

Carol Williams and Debbie Reynolds ~ Sometimes I can't decorate on a large scale due to space constraints, so my tabletop trees and bowls or ornaments still make my house look festive without being cluttered. (I only have 7 or 8 trees in the attic).
