Pat Starnes Snippets: Fall 2018 Progression of Colors for Castlewoods Golf Course

Fall 2018 Progression of Colors for Castlewoods Golf Course

I'd never thought of taking photos of the changing season until fellow blogger George Souto introduced me to the gorgeous fall colors of New England. Last year was the first year I took photos of the changing season, and I wanted to share this years changing colors, too.

Most of my readers will recognize the view as Castlewoods Golf Course, or specifically, the view from my back yard. Probably the most unusual photo I ever captured was of the ball drop in September. This photo shows a lush green landscape, with no sign of fall in sight. I'm using this photo as the benchmark.

Ball Drop at Castlewoods Golf Course

The next photo was taken in mid October. You'll notice the leaves on the hardwoods are beginning to turn and the golf course isn't the vibrant green it was in September. For consistency sake, all photos were taken at approximately the same time of day.

I took a lot of photos over the next couple of weeks with little change. You'll notice the tree in the foreground is turning orange, but the course is still beautiful.

Nov 6 fall colors Castlewoods Golf CourseThe photo taken mid-November shows more yellow than the previous photos. The tree in the foreground has lost most of its leaves but the crepe myrtle has retained most of its foliage, at least until now.

November 16 fall color on Castlewoods Golf CourseIn the photo below, I FINALLY caught a glimpse of the fall foliage, more yellows and some red. Fall has finally arrived in Brandon, MS!

November 25 view of golf course

My final photo shows mostly browns and greens, taken today. We've had a lot of rain the last few days, along with cooler temperatures, so most of the leaves have fallen. Although we haven't officially entered Winter, there has been frost on several occasions.

December 10 fall photos of Castlewoods Golf CourseIn Mississippi, there is an expression, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes. It'll change".

Regardless of the weather, you will see players on the golf course almost year round. The cold weather doesn't seem to deter the die hard golfer. Mississippi temperatures range from the upper 20s and low 30s in the winter time to the mid 90s in the summer.

Interesting to see the subtle changes of the seasons. Not quite as dramatic as New England, but you can definitely appreciate the lushness of summer from these pictures.

Hannah Williams - I've seen the golfers play in all seasons. As you said, except the snow, which is rare here. :) The view is always incredible.

It's hard to beat the change of scenery in New England, Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089. Do you have much change in scenery in Hawaii?

Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty - There are a lot of good people here on ActiveRain and enough inspiration to go around and around and around all day long!

Your photos of the golf course with Autumn progression of colors are just beautiful!

What a beautiful series of photos, Pat. This golf course looks wonderful. In Charlotte, people play golf year round, as well, except maybe on the coldest days.

Good morning Pat - I really love your progression and hope you will do it again next year.  We are way past fall colors up here.

You should have seen the view this morning Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI . It was heavily foggy, which is a rare site. I agree, there is a lot of inspiration here, and I appreciate  George Souto giving me the idea to showcase my neighborhood in this way.

Endre Barath, Jr. I'd love to see the changing season in LA. Please piggy back on this idea and show us your fall colors next year.

I swear I saw a golf cart splash by this weekend in the RAIN Nina Hollander. Golfers are hard core. :)

Grant Schneider - MS weather is strange. One day the temp is in the 70s, the following day might be in the 40s. Maybe that's why it took so long to get the changing colors. As I look outside, I still see orange leaves on trees, but for the most part, it feels like winter, still with the sporadic temps. I will plan on taking photos again next year. :)

Patricia glad to hear my Fall Series motivated you to do this blog.  There is a huge difference in the color of the grass between the first picture and last picture.

Oh yes, our grass is dormant now, so residents have a reprieve from the weekly mowing. The golf course, however, maintains the greens year round. I do appreciate the inspiration, George Souto. One day I'd love to see the colors change in New England, but for now, I'll watch through my window.

You can really see the change, Pat.  Here in Sacramento, the drought kept us from watering our lawns as often as the color green demanded.  It wasn't until we received our first rains a few weeks ago, that things began to brighten up once again.

I'm glad the rain is finally falling in your area Myrl Jeffcoat. The smoke had to be terrifying, not to mention unhealthy. Thanks for the feature in the "Photos" group. It was fun taking the pics with the end goal in mind.

Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty Not so much, but different trees and plants flower at different times of the year.  There is not one season that really stands out.

I love watching the colors change and I know George Souto is honored to have inspired you to share your photos of the changing colors too!
